Accustomed to dealing with the occasional medical malpractice lawsuit, the Medical Center of Southeast Texas will defend itself against a claim of a different nature, as an area resident has filed a slip-and-fall lawsuit against the healthcare provider.
Alleging he was injured two years ago when he slipped in water, Kevin Roach filed suit against the Medical Center on Aug. 1 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, on Aug. 2, 2010, Roach had accompanied his father to the Medical Center’s Port Arthur facility when he slipped and fell due to water on the floor in the lobby area, causing unspecified personal injuries.
In his suit, Roach alleges the Medical Center and its employees negligently failed to protect him from a discoverable dangerous condition on the premises.
The suit alleges the defendant should have warned him of the danger and taken measures to reduce the risk.
Roach is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and lost wages, plus all court costs.
Houston attorney Jack Todd Ivey represents him.
Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
